What is the Invitation?
God has a personal invitation, The INVITATION, for everyone. God created us to have a relationship with Himself. And He wants that so much that He sent Jesus into our world to make a way for that to happen.
What am I supposed to do?
When we accept The INVITATION by faith, we become children of God. And God calls us to share The INVITATION with those around us- at school, at work, at the mall, in our neighborhood.
Want to please God?
Nothing is closer to the heart of God than sharing The INVITATION with others. He is not impressed with the size of a church, or its budget, or our musical ability, or our creative programming. Those are all good things; but when we stand before God and give account of our lives, sharing The INVITATION is one thing that we know will bring Him glory.
How do I start?
In 2016 our church family is taking the challenge to pray daily for those who need to hear The INVITATION. Sharing the good news of salvation through Christ is more about how much we love than it is about how much we know. When we pray for those who need The INVITATION we’ll find that our love for God grows- that’s what He really wants! At the same time, our heart for others will grow as we pray regularly for their salvation.
Is there more I can do? What’s next?
As your heart for God and the lost grows, you may have a burden to CONNECT with those you are praying for. Opportunities to share The INVITATION usually arise in the context of relationships. Here are some ideas for building a relationship with someone you’ve been praying for.
1. Recreation- riding bikes, golf, hoops, pickle-ball… all are great ways to engage.
2. Service- offer to mow or water or walk the dog, help with a home improvement project, or provide a meal during a busy time.
3. Note- send a note of celebration on a holiday or a note of encouragement.
As you pray, ask God for opportunities to CONNECT with those you are praying for. Then when opportunities arise, reach out any way you can to show you care.
How can I pray?
Here are some ways to pray for those who need The INVITATION:
Who should I pray for?
Ask God to bring to your mind three (or more) people you think might need to know The INVITATION. Pray for whomever God lays on your heart. If you don’t have anyone in mind, pray that God will direct you to those who should be on your list and keep praying that way until He does.
How long should I pray?
The INVITATION lasts throughout 2016. God’s Word tells us to continue praying indefinitely. The eternal destiny of those on your list is in the balance. It may be years before some people respond to The INVITATION. Don’t give up. Those you are praying for will be forever grateful.
